The GCHSAA/CHSAA may provide limited student directory information to potential news and feature article publication sources unless a refusal of consent to release has been filed in writing by the parent, guardian or eligible student (age 18 or over) with respect to the distribution of any or all of the listed items of student directory information. Directory information includes: student’s name, address and phone number, names of student’s parents / guardians, date and place of birth, field of study, participation in recognized activities and sports, weight and height of members of athletic teams, dates and programs of attendance, awards and recognitions received and home school district. In addition, the school or district may occasionally provide photographic images of students, or examples of students’ work, for publication in print or internet media.
Under the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) of 1974, parents who do not desire release of any of the above information must make specific request in writing to the Executive Director’s office by September 30th each year. Failure to make such request shall be deemed consent to release, provide or publish the information during the 2014-2015 school year.
Under (FERPA), parents and students over 18 years old have a right to inspect and review the student’s records. They may request an amendment of the records if they believe them to be incorrect, misleading or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA, and may file a complaint with the Family Policy Compliance Office
